Lazio vs Sampdoria 18/01/20

18 January 2020

High-flying Lazio take on a struggling Sampdoria side at the Stadio Olimpico, looking to maintain an impressive form and continue pursuing the Serie A (SA) title.

Lazio have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with this term, having won all ten of their previous league outings to cut down the gap on table-toppers Inter Milan to six points. Although only three of those triumphs have seen Lazio keep a clean sheet, Simone Inzaghi’s men have bagged over 1.5 goals in all but one of those successes, coming from behind to win the last three! The Biancocelesti might not have to look for another comeback here, as they’ve opened the scoring in six of nine SA home fixtures, winning every single one of them. Also, Lazio’s last top-flight home defeat to Sampdoria dates back to 2005, with the Rome outfit winning ten of 13 SA home H2Hs since (D3).

Meanwhile, the visitors have endured mixed fortunes in their past five SA outings (W2, D1, L2), with three of those matches featuring under 1.5 goals. One of the reasons Sampdoria currently hover five points clear of the relegation zone is a disastrous away record of two wins in nine SA road trips (D1, L6). Importantly, both of those successes have come in the last four away games (D1, L1), although each has come against a team from the relegation territory and witnessed Claudio Ranieri’s men prevail via the exact 1-0 score. In fact, ‘I Blucerchiati’ have netted over 1.5 goals in just one of nine SA away fixtures so far this season, scoring an average of 0.88 goals per away game.
