Lazio vs Internazionale 04/10/20

4 October 2020

Familiar foes go head-to-head at the Stadio Olimpico as Lazio meet Internazionale in a massive Serie A showdown.

Lazio got hammered by Atalanta at home last time out (4-1 defeat) and are now taking on a team they’ve lost to in three of their previous four top-flight H2Hs held in the capital (W1). Curiously, three of those four outcomes (win/losses) have come despite a -1 handicap, which was the case in 50% of the hosts’ home league results back in 2019/20 (8/16). Despite suffering a horror loss to Atalanta in which they conceded three goals in the first half, Simone Inzaghi’s men established a habit of bouncing back after lagging behind at home. Indeed, no team rescued more home points than Lazio (14) last season, with the ‘Biancocelesti’ losing just one of seven Serie A home matches in which they shipped the opener (W4, D2, L1).

Meanwhile, the visitors have enjoyed a blistering start to the season, winning each of their opening two Serie A games, both of which saw over 6.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Indeed, a 5-2 thumping of Benevento last time out now means Antonio Conte’s men have netted over 1.5 goals in seven consecutive league trips, last season included. Additionally, only Atalanta (47) managed to score more Serie A away goals than Inter (41) back in 2019/20, who struck an average of 2.15 goals per league trip. What’s more, quick out of the blocks, the ‘Nerazzurri’ opened the scoring in a league-high 15 Serie A away games last season, maintaining that habit this term.
