Lazio vs Cagliari 24/07/20
24 July 2020
The two out-of-sorts sides will lock horns at the Stadio Olimpico this midweek, as Lazio take on Cagliari in a potentially high-scoring Serie A affair. In fact, all five of their previous top-flight H2Hs have featured over 2.5 goals, with four of them seeing both teams score, too.
A 2-1 away loss to Juventus last time out means that Lazio enter the round on a run of five Serie A games without a win (D1, L4), with each of those defeats seeing the ‘Biancocelesti’ concede at least two goals. Additionally, the hosts have bagged under 1.5 goals in each of those five matches, which marks a significant dip in form. Indeed, Simone Inzaghi’s players had notched two goals or more in six Serie A fixtures prior. Yet, Lazio boast the division’s third-best home attack (42), having scored an average of 2.47 goals per Serie A home outing. The Rome-based giants must be relishing the prospect of taking on Cagliari, whom they’ve beaten in all eight of their previous top-flight H2Hs held in the capital, scoring over 1.5 goals on seven of those occasions.
Meanwhile, the visitors take this trip on a six-game winless run in Serie A (D4, L1), having drawn a blank four times during that period. Indeed, for Cagliari, goals have been at a premium away from home this calendar year. The ‘Sardinians’ have failed to find the net in four of nine Serie A trips since the calendar year flipped, netting precisely once per match in four of the other five (W1, D4, L4). Also, conceding the opening goal is likely to ruin Cagliari’s hopes of landing three points here. Walter Zenga’s side returned exactly three points from eight league trips in which they’ve shipped the opener (D3, L5).
