LA Galaxy vs Colorado Rapids

Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson forms the backdrop for a heavyweight Major League Soccer clash between LA Galaxy and Colorado Rapids.

LA Galaxy’s topsy-turvy spell continued last weekend as a dismal 2-0 loss at FC Dallas means they’ve alternated between victories (2) and defeats (2) across their four most recent MLS assignments. Though consistency hasn’t been Los Angelinos’ strong suit of late, they’ve been the epitome of continuity on home turf, winning five of their last six MLS outings at Dignity Health Sports Park. Indeed, only two teams in the Western Conference have amassed more home points than LA Galaxy’s 24 this season (W7, D3, L1). However, their formidable home record is under serious threat as they take on a Colorado side they’ve lost to in four of their last five league H2Hs in Carson (W1), conceding multiple goals in three of those four losses.

As for Colorado Rapids, their mini-revival ended last week as a 1-1 draw at New York Red Bulls knocked them down from a two-game winning streak. But despite their indifferent four-game form in MLS (W2, D1, L1), the visitors are still on the verge of securing a playoff berth, boasting a healthy eight-point lead on 10th-placed Austin in the Western Conference. Leaving the comforts of their home doesn’t bode well for Colorado’s bid to maintain their unbeaten run, considering they’ve lost four times on their last five league travels (W1), alarmingly conceding 3+ goals in three of those four defeats. They recently visited Los Angeles, only to be battered by LAFC 3-0 toward the end of June.
