Koln vs Bayern Munich 16/02/20

16 February 2020

The RheinEnergieStadion will host the two in-form Bundesliga (BL) teams this weekend, as Koln take on Bayern Munich.

The hosts will look to put an end to their disastrous 11-game winless streak in BL H2Hs (D1) and can draw inspiration from their recent upturn in results to make it happen. Indeed, 65.22% (15) of Koln’s 23 league points arrived in the last six BL outings (W5, L1), which is the second joint-best form in Germany’s top division. Notably, all but one of their results (win/loss) during that six-game sequence have yielded a multiple-goal margin, with three of their five wins in that period seeing Koln keep a clean sheet. ‘Die Geißböcke’ tend to break their rivals first when at home, having found the opening goal in seven of ten BL home fixtures so far this season. Yet, they ended up losing two such matches, with both of those defeats coming against top-seven sides and seeing Koln blow a 1-0 halftime lead.

Although the visitors played out a goalless home draw with RB Leipzig last weekend, six consecutive league wins prior had propelled them back to the top of the table. Impressively, all six of those successes have produced a winning margin of multiple goals, with half of them (three) yielding a clean sheet. In turn, none of Bayern’s last six BL away fixtures have ended in a draw (W4, L2), with five of those results (win/loss) seeing the winning side prevail via a margin of two or more goals. The Bavarians’ strong first-half performances have seen them open the scoring in eight of ten BL road trips and concede just five of the 14 away goals before the break (36%).
