Juventus vs Sampdoria 27/07/20

27 July 2020

Out-of-sorts Juventus welcome unpredictable Sampdoria to the Allianz Stadium this weekend, looking to seal three points and clinch a record-extending ninth successive Serie A title.

A shock 2-1 away loss to Udinese during the midweek now means that all seven of Juventus’ last Serie A games saw over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet (W3, D2, L2). Perhaps surprisingly, but Maurizio Sarri’s men have shipped over 1.5 goals in four of their previous five league matches, with ten of the 12 goals they conceded across those fixtures coming in the second half of play. Still, the reigning champions seem likely to close the 2019/20 season without a single home defeat (W15, D2), as they take on a side they’ve not lost to in five of their last six top-flight H2Hs held in Turin (W5, D1). Notably, the ‘Bianconeri’ scored over 1.5 goals in each of those five wins, which has been true in 14 of their 15 Serie A home successes this term.

Meanwhile, the visitors have not played out a single league draw for over five months now, picking up seven wins in 14 Serie A fixtures since the beginning of February (L7). Curiously, all 14 of their results (win/loss) during that period saw the winner on the day score at least two goals, with just three yielding clean sheets. However, the ‘Blucerchiati’ have secured barely one from possible 15 points in their previous five Serie A trips to the current top-six sides (D1, L4), conceding over 1.5 goals in each of those four defeats. Yet, given that the ‘both-teams-to-score’ theme has been present in eight of their last ten top-flight away H2Hs, Sampdoria must be confident of getting on the scoresheet here.
