Juventus vs Napoli 01/09/19

1 September 2019

A real clash of titans sees the reigning Serie A (SA) holders take on the last season’s runners-up Napoli at the Allianz Stadium this weekend.

Fresh from a narrow 1-0 away win over Parma in the SA opener, the hosts will look to post their first league home win following back-to-back draws from the end of last season. While both of those stalemates ended with the same 1-1 scoreline, the two of Bianconeri’s previous SA home wins have finished with the identical 2-1 scoreline in their favor. Preparing to kick-off their 2019/20 SA home campaign, the Turin giants are relying on the fact they finished the last season without a single home defeat in the Italian top-flight (W15, D4). While 11 of those wins saw Juventus score 2+ match goals, eight were accompanied by a clean sheet – league’s joint-best. Also, Maurizio Sarri’s men broke the deadlock in 14 of 19 SA home outings the last term – again the joint-best in SA.

Meanwhile, the visitors are hopeful that they can take a big step forward and put an end to Juventus’ domination of Serie A after beating Fiorentina 4-3 away from home in the opening matchday. But, the Partenopei have come off better only once in their last nine league visits here (W1, D1, L7). Also, none of Napoli’s previous seven SA trips has ended in a draw (W5, L2), with six of those games producing over 2.5 goals and seeing both teams score. Napoli’s free-scoring form when on the road lately can also encourage the traveling side. Carlo Ancelotti’s men have scored 2+ match goals in each of their last five SA away games, with 61.5% of them coming in the second half (8 of 13).
