Juventus vs Fiorentina 21/04/19

21 April 2019

Rocked by a shock Champions League elimination to Ajax, Juventus return to Serie A action this weekend as they welcome Fiorentina to the Allianz Stadium.

Midweek’s 2-1 home loss to the Dutch side was Juve’s second straight across all competitions, as they’ve also lost 2-1 to SPAL in SA last time out. But, sitting top of the table with a 17-point lead over second-placed Napoli, the defending champions have an opportunity to claim their eighth successive league title should they pull off a triumph here. The Bianconeri boast an almost perfect home record (W14, D2) remaining the only Italian side that has yet to lose at home this term. Furthermore, with 35 goals scored in 16 SA home outings, Massimiliano Allegri’s men boast league’s second-best attacking record, as they also remain one of two teams that have managed to score 2+ match goals in 12. Atypically for Juventus, they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in seven of their previous ten competitive clashes allowing over 1.5 match goals three times though.

Meanwhile, the visitors are enduring one of the most challenging periods of an underwhelming league campaign as they come into this meeting after struggling to pick up all three points in their last eight SA fixtures (D5, L3). Having established themselves as ‘Serie A draw specialists,’ the Viola have played out 16 draws in 32 SA matches this term, with eight of those stalemates coming away from home. Uncomfortable on the road, the Lilies have clinched just three wins away from the Stadio Artemio Franchi, which is 37.5% of their total SA triumphs (8). A much bigger problem for Vincenzo Montella could be Fiorentina’s defensive struggling that has seen them conceding at least one goal in all six of their previous SA away games while allowing 2+ match goals four times in the process.
