Juventus vs Cagliari 06/01/20

6 January 2020

Cagliari travel to the Allianz Arena to take on Juventus, desperate to post their first victory in Serie A (SA) H2Hs since November 2009.

The hosts finished the last calendar year with back-to-back league wins over Udinese and Sampdoria that both saw them break the deadlock inside the opening 20 minutes and fail to keep a clean sheet. Maurizio Sarri’s men have been impressive on home turf so far, picking up seven wins in eight SA home matches, although five of those successes have come via a single-goal margin. The reigning holders tend to dictate the pace of the game from the very beginning, as they’ve opened the scoring in seven league home fixtures so far. What’s more, they have scored two or more goals in all but one of their SA home games so far this season and could add a few more here, as they’ve netted over 2.5 match goals in each of their last three SA home H2Hs with Cagliari, winning all of them.

Meanwhile, the visitors endured a torrid end of 2019, failing to secure a win in three of their last SA outings (D1, L2) and conceding precisely two goals per match in each of those fixtures. Indeed, Cagliari’s all-out approach has seen six of their previous SA matches all producing over 2.5 goals and seeing both teams score. Also, free-scoring Cagliari have found the net in all eight of their SA road trips so far this season, netting 2+ match goals on half of those occasions (4). Just like Juventus, the Sardinians have been strong starters, especially when away from home. They’ve opened the scoring in six SA away matches so far but have failed to capitalize on that lead in three such fixtures (D3). Nonetheless, it will be a daunting prospect for Cagliari to pick up three points here, as they’ve lost 14 of their last 17 top-flight H2Hs with the Bianconeri (D3, L14).
