Juventus vs AC Milan 17/01/19

17 January 2019

The two most notable Serie A clubs will battle it out for the Supercoppa Italiana at the King Abdullah Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as Juventus tackle arch-rivals AC Milan.

It will be the second H2H meeting between these two this season, with Juventus pulling off a routine 2-0 win at the Stadio San Siro back in November.

Entering the meeting as considerable favorites, the Bianconeri are looking for revenge on a defeat in the 2016 Supercoppa Italiana, when the Rossoneri managed to beat the Old Lady after a penalty shootout.

Still unbeaten in domestic competitions (W18, D2), the reigning Serie A holders come into this encounter after a comfortable 2-0 road win over Bologna in Coppa Italia. If the Bianconeri win this, it would probably be to nil, as eight of Juventus’ last nine competitive triumphs have seen them beat their opponents without conceding a goal. The Turin giants are the only Italian team to score in every single game this season, bagging over 1.5 goals per match in 18 of 26 competitive outings so far. Juventus’ defense proved to be the best in Italy again, as they’ve allowed just 11 goals in 20 races in domestic competitions.

It will be a daunting prospect for a struggling AC Milan side to outplay Juventus, as they’ve lost six consecutive H2H clashes with the biggest rivals. Although they kicked Sampdoria out of the Coppa Italia a few days ago thanks to two extra-time goals, it was the fifth time in their previous seven competitive encounters they’ve struggled to find the net in regular time. In that period, the Rossoneri were held to three goalless draws and suffered two defeats, having secured just one victory in the process. AC Milan’s record against the top four Serie A clubs should worry Gennaro Gattuso, as his team failed to wrap up all three points against each of Italy’s top-placed sides (D1, L3).
