Johor Darul Ta’zim vs Suwon Bluewings 03/03/20
3 March 2020
Johor Darul Ta’zim and Suwon Bluewings will face off at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in the AFC Champions League Group G this midweek.
After a dismal 5-1 away defeat to Vissel Kobe in the Group G curtain-raiser, the hosts will look to kick-start their CL campaign at the venue where they have won seven consecutive games, friendlies included. Free-scoring Johor have netted over 1.5 goals in six of their last seven competitive home matches, finding the net in both halves on four of those occasions. Delivering action from the get-go, Southern Tigers have opened the scoring inside the first 20 minutes of play in five of six of their previous home outings in all competitions while conceding just once in the same interval. A draw seems to be an unlikely outcome, too, considering none of Johor’s last ten fixtures has ended in a stalemate (W9, L1).
Meanwhile, the visitors have started their CL campaign with a 1-0 home loss to Kobe, which marked their second consecutive defeat in all competitions following a 4-1 dismantling to Sangju Sangmu in the national championship. Moreover, Kim Do-kyun’s men have picked up just a single win in their last eight road trips (D3, L4), drawing a blank in five of those matches. Yet, both of their previous away games produced over 2.5 first-half goals and witnessed both sides hit the net before the break, too. Another potential worry for the traveling fans is that Suwon have managed just two clean sheets in their last nine trips, conceding over 1.5 match goals four times.
