Internazionale vs Sampdoria 22/06/20
22 June 2020
Internazionale welcome Sampdoria to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, looking to post a third consecutive win in their Serie A (SA) home H2Hs.
Two consecutive defeats to direct title rivals right before the pandemic gripped football in Italy have devastated Inter’s hopes of winning the league. However, the ‘Nerazzurri’ remain one of the division’s best home sides, having lost only once in 12 SA home fixtures (W7, D4), with four of their seven wins here producing a narrow one-goal margin. In turn, Inter and Sampdoria have played out some close contests at this venue since 2009, with each of their ten top-flight H2Hs in that period ending separating the sides by under 1.5 goals. Strong first-half performers, Antonio Conte’s side, have taken the lead into the break in seven of 12 SA home games (33.33%), failing to capitalize on the halftime advantage twice, though (D2).
Meanwhile, none of Sampdoria’s last four SA matches has produced a draw (W2, L2), although each saw over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Even though they picked up a 3-1 away win over Torino last time out, Sampdoria’s tally of just 12 SA away goals scored is the league’s fourth joint-worst. If they manage to get on the scoresheet here, as they did in six of their last seven SA road trips, the ‘Doria’ are likely to do that after the break. In fact, 12 of their 13 league goals scored away from home so far have come in the second half of play.
