Internazionale vs Napoli 14/06/20

14 June 2020

Internazionale head to the Stadio San Paolo to take on Napoli in the return leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final tie, looking to overcome a 1-0 defeat from the reverse fixture.

Gennaro Gattuso had managed to transfer his combative spirit to his players just before the coronavirus outbreak curtailed his momentum, with Napoli picking up seven wins in their last nine competitive outings (D1, L1). Unsurprisingly, seven of their eight results (win/loss) during that nine-game sequence have yielded a narrow one-goal margin, with seven seeing the winner on the day break the deadlock, too. In turn, each of Napoli’s last five competitive home games has ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W3, D1, L1), with three of those fixtures witnessing over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. A fragile backline could be a reason for concern, though, as the Partenopei failed to keep a blank sheet in seven of their last nine home matches in all competitions, allowing over 1.5 goals on four of those occasions.

On the other hand, the visitors have suffered three defeats in their last five competitive fixtures (W2), with four of those results seeing the winner on the day both of their match goals in one of the halves. Also, the Nerazzurri have endured mixed fortunes in their seven previous road trips (W3, D2, L2), all competitions included. Four of their five results across those games have seen the winning side open the scoring and prevail by a comfortable two-goal margin. But, Antonio Conte’s men usually zone out after the halftime break when they play on the road, with nine of their last 11 away goals conceded against coming in the second half of play.
