Internazionale welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza frantically looking to boost their hopes of advancing to the UEFA Champions League (CL) knockout stage.

Winless in their last four European fixtures (D2, L2), the hosts need to grab a victory here to prevent Dortmund and Barcelona from extending the gap in Group F. After a shock 1-1 home draw with Slavia Praha in the group stage opener, the Nerazzurri succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at Barcelona, stretching their winless run in the CL group stage to six straight games (D3, L3). Interestingly, each of their last three CL stalemates has ended with the identical 1-1 scoreline, while two of their previous three losses in the competition saw them draw a blank. Although they’ve lost just one of their last ten competitive home outings (W5, D4), the Milanese giants face an uphill task here. Indeed, they have suffered five defeats in six of their previous showdowns against the German oppositions (D1).

On the other hand, the visitors were held to a goalless home draw to Barcelona in the opening fixture before clinching a comfortable 2-0 away win over Slavia Praha on Matchday 2. Triumph in Prague was Dortmund’s second in their last seven CL outings (W2, D2, L3), and it was also only the second time in that sequence that they have not drawn a blank. Curiously, none of the BVB’s last ten CL matches has seen both teams score, with eight of them featuring under 2.5 goals. The main reason for concerns amongst the traveling fans is Dortmund’s dismal record on Italian soil (W3, D2, L11), with two of those defeats coming against Inter precisely.
