Inter Milan vs Venezia
Reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan will be looking to bounce back from a 0-0 away draw with Atalanta last time out when they meet Venezia at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Inter Milan will feel confident of maintaining their 13-game unbeaten Serie A run (W10, D3) after surviving extra-time drama against Empoli in midweek Coppa Italia action (3-2). Simone Inzaghi’s men have been a force to be reckoned with at home over the past 16 months, racking up a 27-game unbeaten Serie A streak at the Giuseppe Meazza (W24, D3) since a 2-1 loss to Udinese in October 2020. What’s more, ‘I Nerazzurri’ have registered seven clean sheets in their last eight Serie A home matches, as many shutouts as they had in their previous 25 fixtures in the competition. Though this will be their first top-flight home meeting with Venezia since September 2001, it’s worth noting that Inter have won nine (75%) of their 12 Serie A H2Hs at home (D2, L1).
In the meantime, Venezia came from a 1-0 HT deficit to hold fellow promoted side Empoi to a 1-1 home draw last time out, ending a run of two consecutive league defeats in the process. However, the visitors are now enduring an underwhelming eight-game winless streak in Serie A (D3, L5) since winning 1-0 at Bologna in mid-November. A lack of firepower up front has seen Venezia net a league joint-low six Serie A goals away from home this season, averaging 0.6 goals per road trip. Home and away, ‘I Lagunari’ have scored fewer second-half goals (10) than any other Serie A side this term, though they’ve paradoxically won more points (9) thanks to the goals bagged beyond the 60th minute so far. Still, Paolo Zanetti’s men have failed to win any of their 13 Serie A games when conceding first this season (D5, L8).
