Inter Milan vs SPAL 10/03/19

10 March 2019

The Champions League promotion fighters and the Serie A relegation battlers go head-to-head at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as Inter Milan tackle SPAL.

Winless in their last three games across all competitions (D2, L1), the hosts chase a victory to preserve a three-point lead on fifth-placed AS Roma and increase their chances of qualifying for the Champions League. Although they’ve failed to wrap up all three points in two of their previous three Serie A home fixtures (W1, D1, L1), the Nerazzurri remain one of the best home sides in the Italian top flight having pulled off eight wins in 12 SA home clashes (W8, D2, L2). The main reason for Inter’s home success is their impressive defense that has conceded just six goals at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza so far (the best defensive home record), allowing over 1.5 goals per match only once this term. However, Luciano Spalletti’s me have been struggling in the final third for the majority of the ongoing campaign, bagging an average of 1.58 goals scored per match at home. What’s more, the Milanese giants have scored one goal or less in six of last eight home meetings across all competitions.

On the other hand, a poor haul of two points in their previous five SA outings (D2, L3) currently puts the visitors five points clear of 18th-placed Bologna. Picking up all three points against Inter will be a daunting prospect for the relegation-threatened visitors, considering they’ve lost two of three H2H meetings with the Nerazzurri since joining the Italian top tier two years ago (D1, L2). Surprisingly, the Biancazzurri have secured three wins on the road comparing to two they’ve achieved at home although they seem to be going through difficulties playing away from home recently. Leonardo Semplici’s men have lost three of their last five SA road meetings (W1, D1, L3), while they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet on eight consecutive SA road trips.
