Inter Milan vs Slavia Praha 18/09/19

18 September 2019

For the first time in history, Inter Milan and Slavia Praha will meet for the UEFA Champions League (CL) clash, as the two sides go head-to-head at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza for their Group F opener.

The hosts will be eager to improve on their last season achievement, which saw them finish third in their respective group behind Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur. Inter’s CL group stage record last year was W2, D2, L2. While both of their draws ending with the same 1-1 scoreline, two of those wins have ended with a 2-1 scoreline in their favor even though they’ve been trailing their rivals at the break on both occasions. Also, the Nerazzurri have won four of their last seven European home matches (W4, D2, L1), beating Slavia Praha 2-1 at home in the Europa League group stage across that period.

Meanwhile, the visitors have qualified for the CL group stage for the second time in their history, successfully negotiating the CL qualifying for the first time since 2007/08. Before dumping out the Romanian outfit CFR Cluj 2-0 on aggregate (1-0 A, 1-0H) in this year’s playoffs, the reigning Czech Republic holders won just one of 15 CL matches, qualifying included (W1, D7, L7). Also, the Červenobílí would like to forget their previous visits to Italy ahead of this clash having lost all six of their last away meetings with Serie A sides.
