Inter Milan vs Sampdoria 18/02/19
18 February 2019
Inter Milan and Sampdoria are set to meet face-to-face at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, with both sides seeking a way to overcome a frustrating period.
The hosts go into this encounter off the back of two consecutive wins across all competitions, including a narrow 1-0 road triumph over Parma that has helped them bringing a three-game SA winless run to an end (D1, L2). Still, even though the Nerazzurri beat Rapid Vienna in Thursday’s Europa League clash, they have once again failed to score 2+ match goals, which was the sixth successive game in which they’ve scored one goal or less. Immense problems in the final third have seen Luciano Spalletti’s men struggling to hit the net in their last two SA home outings, while the last time they’ve managed to score over 1.5 goals per match at home was against Frosinone back in November. However, Samir Handanovic preserved a clean slate in seven consecutive SA home appearances before Bologna picked up a narrow 1-0 victory at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Meanwhile, a poor haul of four points in their last five Serie A games have drastically lowered Sampdoria’s chances of reaching the European promotion. Currently sitting 9th in the table, the visitors come into this meeting following two successive league defeats in which they’ve failed to score a goal. La Samp’s indifferent road form (W3, D4, L5) is also one of the reasons they are struggling to keep up the pace with top-six sides. Marco Giampaolo’s players have secured just one victory on their previous eight SA road trips (W1, D3, L4), conceding over 1.5 goals per match seven times in the process. Shaky at the back but solid in attack, the Blucerchiati have provided much entertainment to the neutral when playing away from home. Eight of Sampdoria’s 12 road games have produced over 2.5 goals, while seven of them saw goals on both ends.
