Inter Milan vs Napoli
One of the most heavily anticipated fixtures in the Serie A calendar pits Inter Milan and Napoli against each other at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Despite blowing hot and cold across the opening five Serie A rounds (W2, D2, L1), Inter Milan’s Scudetto defense is back on track after five wins from their last six league outings (D1) helped them whittle down the gap on table-topping Napoli to only one point. A win in this top-table six-pointer would see ‘I Nerazzurri’ take the outright lead at the summit, and with Simone Inzaghi’s side only losing once in their last ten top-flight H2Hs (W6, D3), chances are they’re going to make it. Adding to Inter’s confidence, they saw off Arsenal 1-0 in midweek UEFA Champions League action, registering their fifth clean sheet across their last six competitive games following a leaky start to the campaign. Still, Inter can’t take anything for granted after only winning twice in their four most recent home league fixtures (D1, L1).
On the other hand, Napoli’s purple patch ended abruptly last weekend as Atalanta thrashed them 3-0 at Stadio Diego Maradona, knocking them down from a superb six-game winning streak in all competitions. It was Antonio Conte’s second three-goal margin defeat in charge of ‘I Partenopei’ following a 3-0 defeat at Hellas Verona on the opening Serie A weekend. His men have since gone into overdrive on their league travels, avoiding defeat in four on the trot (W3, D1), with each yielding a clean sheet. However, it’s worth noting that Napoli last got the better of Inter on this ground in league action in April 2017. They’ve since drawn a blank on five of their seven Serie A visits to Meazza (D2, L5).
