Inter Milan vs Napoli 27/12/18

27 December 2018

Wednesday’s Serie A action concludes with a heavyweight clash at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as a struggling Inter Milan side look to take on an in-form Napoli.

Although they sit third in the table, the hosts have failed to wrap up all three points in three out of their last four Serie A outings, being held to two draws while suffering one defeat in the process. The Nerazzurri come into this encounter after a frustrating 1-1 draw with Chievo Verona that has seen them conceding the equalizing goal in the closing stage of the match. However, Luciano Spalleti’s men have racked up a six-game home winning run in Serie A, with Samir Handanovic keeping a clean sheet in all of Inter’s last five home wins. Furthermore, the Biscione have scored in each of their previous eight home clashes across all competitions, bagging a minimum of two goals per match five times in the run.

Meanwhile, the visitors come into this meeting following a narrow 1-0 home win over SPAL as they look to stretch their winning league run to five games and keep up the pace with Juventus. What’s more, the Partenopei have secured four successive road Serie A wins after suffering two straight defeats in the opening stage of the championship, with only Juventus (8) achieving more victories on the road than Napoli (6) this term. A potential problem for Carlo Ancelotti ahead of this trip could be that his players have failed to keep a clean sheet in six out of seven road matches, already conceding ten goals away from home this season. However, Insigne and co. have notched at least one goal on seven road trips so far, scoring a minimum of two goals per match five times in the process.

Goals have been in short supply in prior six H2H meetings between Inter and Napoli. Five of their last six H2H encounters have produced under 2.5 goals, with the last two ending with the identical 0-0 scoreline.
