Inter Milan vs Lazio 31/03/19

31 March 2019

Saturday’s Serie A action concludes with a derby between Inter Milan and Lazio at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as the two teams battle it out for the Champions League promotion.

The hosts currently sit third in the table with a six-point lead over fifth-place AS Roma and are confident of securing back-to-back Champions League appearances. The Nerazzurri come into this meeting off the back of a 3-2 victory over arch-rivals AC Milan, as they seem to have managed to overcome a severe crisis. After failing to wrap up all three points in two straight SA games and suffering the Europa League elimination to Eintracht Frankfurt, Luciano Spalletti’s men have clinched two successive league wins in the build-up to this encounter. Although Inter grabbed nine triumphs in 13 SA home games (W9, D2, L2), they have struggled to entertain the home crowd. The Nerazzurri have scored fewer goals at home than any other team in top-six (21), but they’ve also shipped the fewest goals at home of all Italian sides so far (6).

Meanwhile, the visitors, who have been struggling to maintain consistency in the recent period, have entered this round unbeaten in their last three SA games (W2, D1). Sitting six points beyond fourth-placed AC Milan, the Biancocelesti are forced to make the most out of this clash to preserve their hopes of reaching the group stage of the CL alive. However, Lazio’s indifferent road form (W5, D3, L5) could be a major obstacle for Simone Inzaghi, especially considering the fact his players have lost two of their previous four SA away fixtures (W1, D1, L2). Ciro Immobile and Co. have been dealing with immense problems in the final third during this sequence, scoring one goal or less in all four games.
