Inter Milan vs Lazio 01/02/19

01 February 2019

Inter Milan and Lazio face-off at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals clash that sees the hosts looking to stretch a four-game unbeaten run against the Rome outfit (W3, D1).

Winless in their last two SA encounters (D1, L1), the Nerazzurri are still trying to find the way out of their misery in the final third. Not only Luciano Spalletti’s men failed to hit the net in two consecutive league outings, but they’ve also maintained a negative trend that has seen them scoring under 1.5 goals per match eight times in their last nine competitive races. But, Inter’s firm backline has managed to counterbalance disastrous displays from Mauro Icardi and Co, allowing over 1.5 goals per match only once during that period. As a result, just one of the Biscione’s last nine games across all competition has produced over 2.5 goals, with just three of them seeing goals on both ends. However, Spalletti relies on the fact his team is unbeaten in the last 12 competitive home clashes (W9, D3) keeping a clean sheet seven times in the sequence.

Meanwhile, the visitors have lost two successive SA meetings with the identical 2-1 scoreline – both against the Serie A top three sides (Juventus and Napoli). The Biancocelesti are not having the best of times considering they’ve secured just three wins in their last 13 meetings across all competitions (W3, D5, L5). Only one victory on the previous six road trips (W1, D2, L3) certainly can’t encourage the Eagles fans. Simone Inzaghi’s backline has emerged as the main culprit for Lazio’s recent problems, as they’ve managed just one clean sheet in their last 17 competitive outings. But, Lazio are unbeaten in two consecutive games at this venue (W1, D1), having picked up a 2-1 triumph in the same round of the Coppa Italia two years ago.
