Inter Milan vs Juventus

Stadio Giuseppe Meazza is the venue as eternal Serie A rivals Inter Milan and Juventus go head-to-head in the latest iteration of the famous Derby d’Italia.

Marcus Thuram’s injury-time heroics helped Inter Milan see off Young Boys 1-0 in midweek UEFA Champions League action and extend their winning run in all competitions to five games. Simone Inzaghi’s lads have gone into overdrive since the Derby della Madonnina heartache against AC Milan in mid-September, winning three straight Serie A matches to stay within striking distance of table-topping Napoli. Despite trailing Juventus in the overall Serie A H2H stakes (W49, D46, L87), the reigning Scudetto holders have recently turned the tables on their arch-rivals, going unbeaten across their last four competitive meetings (W2, D2). That includes a 1-0 home win in this corresponding fixture in 2023/24, handing ‘I Nerazzurri’ a chance to beat Juventus in back-to-back top-flight H2Hs for the first time since 2004.

In the meantime, Juventus slipped to their first defeat under new manager Thiago Motta in midweek as Stuttgart triumphed 1-0 in Turin. Keen to atone for that disheartening performance, Motta’s men return to Serie A, where they’ve yet to lose this season (W4, D4), looking to build on last weekend’s narrow 1-0 home win against Lazio. Motta has based his early success at the Allianz Stadium on an impregnable backline, with ‘I Bianconeri’ conceding a league-low one goal after eight league matches. On top of that, they’re the only side in Europe’s traditional top-five divisions yet to capitulate away from home this season (W2, D1), while both those victories yielded an identical 3-0 scoreline. However, with eight of Juventus’ last nine top-flight clashes against Inter featuring under 2.5 goals, a low-scoring theme could be in store.
