Inter Milan vs Atalanta 08/09/19

8 April 2019

Inter Milan and Atalanta go head-to-head for a Serie A fixture that can help the visitors burst into top-four should they manage to pull off a win at the Estadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Sitting third in the table with a five-point lead over their next rivals, the hosts are confident of securing back-to-back Champions League appearances. The Nerazzurri are not enjoying a purple patch given they’ve won three of their last six SA outings (W3, D1, L2), with two of those triumphs arriving on the road. What’s more, Luciano Spalletti’s men have clinched barely two victories in their last five SA home clashes (W2, D1, L2), struggling to hit the net in all three of their failures in that period. However, the Milanese giants boast the best defensive home record in the Italian top tier (9) having kept eight clean sheets in 14 SA home matches. ‘Unsurprisingly’ for them, three of Inter’s previous six competitive games have produced under 1.5 goals, with two ending with the same 1-0 scoreline against their favor.

Meanwhile, Atalanta’s strong run of form over the past five weeks (W4, D1) have rocketed them to the fifth place, as they currently reside just one point adrift of fourth-placed AC Milan. The visitors come into this meeting off the back of a stunning 4-1 home win over Bologna during midweek, which was the second successive SA game in which they’ve scored 3+ match goals. But, a potential worry for the traveling fans could be that Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have been struggling at the back after the Christmas break, preserving barely four clean sheets in 14 competitive encounters in 2019. Furthermore, La Dea have conceded at least one goal in all nine of their previous games across all competitions, allowing over 1.5 goals per match three times though.
