Inter Milan vs AS Roma 21/04/19
21 April 2019
Saturday’s Serie A action concludes with a massive showdown between Inter Milan and AS Roma at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as the two battle it out for the Champions League promotion.
Residing third with a six-point lead over their next rivals, the hosts have a chance to secure back-to-back CL appearance should they manage to clinch victory here. However, the Nerazzurri have failed to impress in their last three home games across all competitions, suffering two defeats while struggling to find the net in all three. Inter’s drop-off in form, especially when it comes to their home outings indicates they may have a problem to pull off their first home win over Roma since 2015. Another thing Luciano Spalletti has to worry about is Inter’s lack of creativity in the final third that has seen them net just 21 goals in 15 SA home fixtures on an average of 1.40 goals scored per match. Still, no team has shipped fewer goals at home than Inter (7) this term, with Spalletti’s men keeping nine clean sheets so far.
On the other hand, the visitors go into this meeting determined to post their third successive SA win as they chase fourth-placed AC Milan by a single point. Interestingly, after the Giallorossi’s eight consecutive SA clashes have featured over 2.5 goals, both of their previous two outings have ended with the same 1-0 scoreline in their favor. But, Roma’s indifferent road form in the past two months (W3, L2) is not as alarming as the fact Claudio Ranieri’s players have failed to wrap up all three points in all five of their away H2Hs with SA top-seven sides this term (D2, L3). Another potential worry for Ranieri is Roma’s fragile defense that has struggled to keep a clean sheet on four of their previous six SA road trips, allowing 2+ match goals in all four.
