Inter Milan vs Arsenal
Stadio Giuseppe Meazza sets the stage for a mouth-watering UEFA Champions League clash between Inter Milan and Arsenal.
It’s been a near-flawless European campaign for Inter Milan thus far. After a spirited 0-0 draw at Manchester City on day one, Simone Inzaghi’s charges have seen off Young Boys and Red Star Belgrade by a combined score of 5-0 to solidify their pursuit of automatic knockout qualification. Firing on all cylinders, Inter have netted 3+ goals in five of their eight competitive matches since a 2-1 Serie A loss to AC Milan in September (W7, D1). More importantly, they’ve seemingly rediscovered their defensive resilience, keeping four clean sheets in their last five outings across all competitions. As one of only five teams yet to concede a goal in this Champions League campaign, the reigning Italian champions will be out to avenge an embarrassing 5-1 defeat in the only previous H2H at Giuseppe Meazza.
However, that encounter dates back to 2003. It will take something special for Arsenal to replicate that result, especially after only winning once on their last five road trips (D2, L2). A win would be massive for the Gunners after a dismal three-game winless run in the Premier League (D1, L2) significantly derailed their title ambitions. On a more positive note, Mikel Arteta’s men are among a handful of Champions League sides to have kept a clean sheet in the opening three rounds. Despite winning back-to-back European fixtures ahead of this trip, Arsenal’s only slump arrived on Italian soil in round one against Atalanta (0-0). That result though, strengthened their recent record against Serie A clubs (W6, D1, L1).
