Iceland vs Turkey 12/06/19

12 June 2019

The Group H leaders travel Turkey travel to Reykjavík to take on Iceland at Laugardalsvöllur, hoping to post their sixth straight international triumph.

Currently sitting third in their respective qualifying group, the hosts have secured two wins and sustained one defeat in their opening three games in the European Championship Qualification. Interestingly, both of Iceland’s wins have seen them beat their rivals to nil, while their only loss saw France thumping them 4-0. Strákarnir okkar will be eager to improve following a disastrous UEFA Nations League campaign that has seen them finish bottom of their respective group with zero points and a humiliating -12 goal difference (S1, C13). Moreover, Iceland’s massive problems in the final third have seen them score just two goals in three home games since returning from Russia.

The visitors started Group H of the European Championship Qualification with three consecutive triumphs, including the one over Spain a few days ago. The Crescent-Stars have not only scored 2+ match goals across all three of their wins in the ECQ so far, but they are the only nation to keep a clean sheet in this respective group. Şenol Güneş’s men are on a run of five wins, during which they’ve scored 12 goals while allowing just one in the process. Still, Turkey’s potential problem ahead of this meeting could be their indifferent road form over the past 22 months, with the Crescent-Stars securing two wins in five away games in that span (W2, D1, L2).
