Huesca vs Atletico Madrid 20/01/19

20 January 2019

An in-form Atletico Madrid team travel to the Estadio El Alcoraz to face dead-last Huesca looking to wrap up all three points and keep up the pace with Barcelona.

La Liga returnees seem to be on their way of rejoining the Spanish second tier, as they’ve barely managed to collect 11 points after the opening 19 league fixtures. Although they’ve lost only one of their last five home outings (W1, D3, L1), Huesca’s tally of one win in nine LL home games is the league’s joint-worst. Additionally, the Oscense are the only team in La Liga to concede in every home clash this campaign although Francisco Rodriguez’s men allowed over 1.5 goals per match three times in the process. Huesca’s principal issue concerns their immense problems in the final third that have seen them failed to find the net on eight occasions so far. Huesca’s average of 0.89 goals scored per match is La Liga’s joint-lowest, with no team bagging fewer goals than them (17).

On the other hand, the visitors come into this meeting after a 3-3 home draw with Girona that has seen them exiting Copa del Rey in the round of 16. However, Los Colchoneros are unbeaten in their last 17 competitive outings (W10, D7). Although they’ve lost just one of nine La Liga road clashes, Los Rojiblancos have played out six draws, securing barely two wins in the process. Only one of Atletico’s nine away games has produced over 2.5 goals, while five of the remaining eight ended with the identical 1-1 scoreline. A potential worry for Diego Simeone could be that his players managed to score over 1.5 goals only once on their last ten road trips in all competitions, failing to hit the target three times in that period.
