Huddersfield Town vs Manchester City 20/01/19

20 January 2019

Arguably one of the weakest sides in the Premier League will face one of the best teams in Europe at the moment, as Huddersfield Town welcome Manchester City to the Kirklees Stadium.

Winless in their last ten competitive meetings (D1, L9), the Terriers couldn’t have asked for the toughest opponent to end a four-game losing PL home streak. Along with Southampton, Mark Hudson’s men have achieved the fewest home wins of all sides in the English top tier (1), having suffered eight losses ahead of this round. Huddersfield defensive frailties have seen them failing to keep a clean sheet in nine of their 11 PL home clashes, allowing over 1.5 goals per match five times in the process. Meanwhile, no team has scored fewer goals at home than Huddersfield (5) this term. Their immense problems in the final third have seen them score one goal or less in every home game this campaign, struggling to hit the back of the net six times so far.

On the other hand, the Citizens have to win this if looking to keep up the pace with the league leaders Liverpool. The reigning holders have gone from two straight losses to three consecutive victories, as they now look to post back-to-back PL road wins following a 3-1 away win over Southampton. Far more comfortable playing at home, Pep Guardiola’s players have already suffered two defeats on ten road trips this term, securing six wins in the process though. However, their tally of seven goals conceded away from home is the Premier League’s joint-best record, with Ederson keeping a clean sheet five times so far. Also, only four teams have scored more goals on the road than Man City (19) this campaign, with Sergio Aguero and Co. bagging over 1.5 goals per match five times away from Etihad.
