Hellas Verona vs Roma 20/09/20
20 September 2020
Roma will be looking to extend a winning run in their Serie A H2Hs with Hellas Verona to five when the two sides meet at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi this weekend.
The hosts have tumbled out of the blocks on the back of the restart in mid-June, picking up only three wins from 13 Serie A matches (W3, D5, L5). Yet, high scoring has been a theme for Verona since the resumption of football, as eight (61.54%) of the aforementioned 13 fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals. Going back to December 2019, the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi has been a venue of entertainment, as a clear majority (83.33%) of Verona’s top-flight games held here since then has featured over 2.5 goals (10/12). It will, however, be a daunting prospect for the ‘Mastiffs’ to secure three points here, as they take on a Roma side they’ve failed to win against in eight of their previous league H2Hs held at this stadium (D4, L4).
On the other hand, Roma produced a stunning finish to 2019/20, winning all but one of the final eight Serie A fixtures last season (D1). Remarkably, free-scoring ‘Giallorossi’ netted over 1.5 goals in each of those eight clashes, managing to overcome a -1 handicap on six of those occasions. Curiously, none of Roma’s ten Serie A trips this calendar year has ended in a draw (W6, L4), with eight of those results (wins/losses) seeing the winner on the day fail to keep a clean sheet. That said, it’s not strange Paulo Fonseca’s men pulled off four turnarounds from eight away league matches in which they conceded the opening goal back in 2019/20 (W4, L4).
