Hellas Verona vs Lazio 27/07/20

27 July 2020

The two out-of-form Serie A sides will face off against each other at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi this weekend, as Hellas Verona take on Lazio.

The hosts are having a tough time, having failed to pull off a win in six consecutive Serie A games in the build-up to this clash (D4, L2). For Verona, goals have been in short supply in the recent period. They’ve netted under 1.5 goals five times during the abovementioned six-game sequence, with five of the seven goals they scored across that period coming in the second half of play. In turn, the majority (64%) of Verona’s Serie A home goals notched this season came after the break (16/25). Curiously, even if they concede the opening goal as they did in ten of 17 league home fixtures this term, the ‘Mastiffs’ should not be written off – Verona returned a league second-high 12 points from applicable matches (W3, D3, L4).

Meanwhile, the visitors take a trip to Verona after losing four of their last five Serie A games (D1), conceding at least two goals in each of those defeats. Indeed, Lazio’s defensive woes have seen them keep a clean sheet only once in their previous six league trips and allow over 1.5 goals four times in the process. Particularly vulnerable in the first half, the ‘Biancocelesti’ have shipped 57.14% (12) of the 21 Serie A away goals conceded before the break. But, quick out of the blocks, Simone Inzaghi’s men have struck four of their last nine goals scored away from home inside the opening 15 minutes of play.
