Hannover 96 vs Borussia Dortmund 01/09/18
01 September 2018
After an outstanding 4-1 win over RB Leipzig at the Signal Iduna Park on the opening Bundesliga matchday, Borussia Dortmund will travel to the HDI-Arena to take on Hannover 96 just before the players depart for the international break. The Reds have faced off against Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion in their first league match, playing out a 1-1 draw despite having the lead five minutes before the final whistle. Before the official Bundesliga kick-off, André Breitenreiter’s team has hammered The 3. Liga side Karlsruher SC by six goals to nil in the first round of DFB Pokal, which was also their fourth consecutive victory at the time following some impressive triumphs over Athletic Bilbao and Udinese in the off-season. On the other hand, the Black and Yellows, who barely managed to go past Greuther Furth in the cup game two weeks ago, notably raised their game against the Bulls, clinching a huge 3-goal margin win despite conceding a goal in the first minute of the match. Lucien Favre’s chief concern at the moment is
a striker’s role, after Michy Batshuayi, André Schürrle, and Andriy Yarmolenko left the club this summer leaving a relatively inexperienced Alexander Isak as the only alternative to Marius Wolf, who arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Felipe, Timo Hübers, and Edgar Prib are all sidelined with injuries, while Bobby Wood might start from the first minute after skipping the last match due to suspension. As for the visitors, Jacob Bruun Larsen, who has suffered a foot injury, will be the only one to miss the encounter.
