Gwangju vs Seoul 22/08/20

22 August 2020

Seoul will be looking to post a third consecutive win over Gwangju FC in the K League 1 when the two sides meet at the Gwangju World Cup Stadium this weekend.

The hosts have avoided defeat in three league matches going into this round (W1, D2), with all three seeing both teams score and two producing over 3.5 goals. The ‘Griffins’ are, however, winless in four top-flight home fixtures in a row (D1, L3), having conceded over 1.5 goals on three of those occasions. Indeed, Gwangju’s defensive woes have seen only one team allow more K League 1 home goals than Park Jin-sub’s side (14), with the majority (57.14%) of them arriving in the second half of play (8). Improving that infamous record will be daunting for Gwangju, as they take on a side they’ve conceded over 1.5 goals against in five of their previous six top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (W1, D1, L4).

Meanwhile, the visitors have overseen an upturn in form lately, going from three consecutive league defeats to three straight victories. Curiously, each of those results (wins/losses) has seen the winner on the day score two goals or more and find the back of the net at least once in the second half. But, Seoul’s leaky defense has conceded far more goals than any other Korean side on the road this term (20), allowing an average of 2.5 goals per K League 1 away fixture. In fact, Kim Ho-young’s men have shipped over 1.5 goals in five of eight league trips, including three of the last four.
