Guangzhou R&F vs Borussia Monchengladbach 22/05/19

22 May 2019

Guangzhou R&F and Borussia Monchengladbach will face-off at the Yuexiushan Stadium in China for a friendly fixture a few days after the completion of the 2018-19 Bundesliga campaign.

Yuexiushan Stadium has been a venue of entertainment for a long time now, with all eight of Guangzhou’s previous games here producing over 2.5 goals while six of them seeing both teams score. Even though they’ve failed to preserve a blank slate in all six of their last home matches, Blue Lions have bagged 2+ match goals each time. As a result, Dragan Stojkovic’s men have secured four wins in the last six home clashes (W4, D1, L1). Notably, the Chinese side has scored in both halves in four of their last five home matches.

Mainly thanks to their disappointing late-season form, the Foals have finished fifth in the Bundesliga and will miss out on the Champions Leauge next season. The Foals come into this meeting off the back of a 2-0 home loss to Borussia Dortmund, which was their third defeat in the last five competitive outings (W1, D1, L3). Monchengladbach’s defensive frailties have seen them keep one clean sheet in those five games while allowing over 1.5 match goals three times in the process. A much bigger issue for Dieter Hecking is his team’s mediocre performance in the final third that has seen them score one goal or less in six of their previous eight competitive matches.
