GSI Pontivy vs Paris Saint-Germain 07/01/19

07 January 2019

GSI Pontivy and Paris Saint-Germain go head-to-head in the Coupe de France round of 64 as the reigning holders look to storm through the Stade Yves-Allainmat trying to reach the round of 32.

Currently competing in the French fifth division, GSI Pontivy have virtually no chance against the best French side at the moment. For the first time in their modest history, Pontivy will have an opportunity to face a top-tier club, with Ligue 2 outfit Brest residing the most recognizable side they had the chance to play against in the recent years. Alain Le Dour’s players have secured their place in the round of 64 by eliminating two lower-league teams, Plouvorn and Grand Quevilly, making that way the biggest success in club’s history.

On the other hand, the Parisians have closed 2018 with three successive wins in all competitions, including the one against Orleans in the Coupe de France. The current Ligue 1 leaders are still unbeaten in domestic competitions this season (W17, D2), having suffered just one defeat in 25 competitive outings so far. What’s more, no team in France has scored more goals than PSG (50) this campaign, with Thomas Tuchel’s men bagging an average of 3.11 goals per match in Ligue 1 so far. Also, the Parisians hold the best defensive record, having conceded barely ten goals after the opening 17 league fixtures. Still, the reigning holders have kept one clean sheet in their previous six competitive games although conceding over 1.5 goals per match just once in the process.
