Greuther Fürth vs Arminia Bielefeld

Greuther Fürth and Arminia Bielefeld are set to square off against each other at the Sportpark Ronhof Thomas Sommer in their first-ever meeting in the Bundesliga.

Greuther Fürth’s first Bundesliga match since May 2013 isn’t something they’d like to remember, considering they were hammered 5-1 by Stuttgart on the opening weekend. Desperate to bounce back from their second-heaviest top-flight defeat, the hosts go up against a Bielefeld side they’ve conceded 2+ goals against across their last four league H2Hs (W1, D2, L1). After finding the net in 11 consecutive home league matches down the final stretch of last season (W7, D3, L1), the ‘Kleeblätter’ will be confident of at least getting on the scoresheet here. Worryingly, though, Greuther’s only previous Bundesliga campaign begun with a 3-0 home loss to Bayern Munich, setting the tone for a thoroughly disappointing campaign that saw them become the first and only team to complete a Bundesliga season without a single home win (D4, L13).

In the meantime, a 2-0 away win at Stuttgart on the final weekend of last season saw Arminia Bielefeld maintain their top-flight status for two consecutive seasons for the first time in the club’s history. Although a goalless home draw with Freiburg on Matchday 1 is not necessarily inspiring, a return of just one loss from their last six Bundesliga away matches (W2, D3, L1) could encourage the traveling fans here. Additionally, the visitors are undefeated on Matchday 2 across the last three Bundesliga campaigns (W1, D2). Regardless, we could be in for a high-scoring affair here, considering their previous four H2H meetings with Greuther have all seen over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring, with the opener in the last two coming within 15 minutes of play.
