Girona vs Tottenham Hotspur 05/08/18

5 August 2018

After three low-profile friendly matches, against Bolton, Melbourne City, and the Indian side Kerala Blasters in which they recorded two impressive wins and one draw, Girona will host the Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur at the Municipal de Montilivi Stadium. The Catalan team had an outstanding season in La Liga after joining Spanish top flight for the first time in their history, finishing 10th in the league. The White and Reds are looking to repeat the similar performance and remain in the first league one more season, so they need some intensive friendlies to raise their game and improve fitness level, and a match against the Spurs will help Eusebio Sacristán to prepare his players as best as possible. The London side finished their participation in the International Champions Cup with two wins, 1-0 over AC Milan and 4-1 over AS Roma, while suffering a defeat to Barcelona after a penalty-shoot-out as the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Mauricio Pochettino is looking forward to seeing Harry Kane rejoining the squad especially after many injuries that hit Tottenham this summer.

Cristhian Stuani will reach his teammates after an extended break he deserved due to his commitments in the World Cup. On the other hand, the English team will enter the game notably weakened, as Dembele, Toby Alderweireld, Verthongen, Eric Dier, Trippier, Dele Alli, Eric Lamela, and Wanyama are all set to skip the encounter.
