Girona vs Sevilla 28/04/19

28 April 2019

La Liga relegation fighters and the Champions League contenders go head-to-head this weekend, as Girona welcome Sevilla to the Estadio Municipal de Montilivi.

A run of poor form that has seen them lose all six of their previous La Liga outings currently puts Girona in the relegation zone – one point adrift of 17th-placed Real Valladolid. Interestingly, the hosts have collected more points on the road this term (12 vs. 22), with just two of eight of their LL wins have come at home. A record of two wins, six draws, and nine defeats in 17 LL home clashes makes the Catalan outfit the weakest home side in the Spanish top tier. What’s more, no team has scored fewer goals at home than Girona (15) this campaign, with Eusebio Sacristán netting an average of 0.88 goals per home match – league’s joint-worst record. Another huge problem for the Blanquivermells is that they’ve lost all three of their previous H2H meetings with Sevilla since joining the top flight, failing to find the net across all of those clashes.

Meanwhile, the visitors are level with fourth-placed Getafe in terms of points (55), mainly thanks to the fact they’ve pulled off four victories in their last five LL games (W4, L1). Notably, all four of those triumphs have seen the Andalusians bag over 1.5 match goals while keeping a clean sheet three times in the process. A potential worry for Los Hispalenses could be their poor LL road record in 2019 (W2, L6), with Joaquín Caparrós’ men failing to find the net in five of those losses. If Los Rojiblancos pick up all three points here, it would probably be to nil, as three of Sevilla’s four competitive away wins since the turn of the year has seen them beating their rivals without conceding a goal.
