Girona vs Real Madrid 27/08/18

27 August 2018

After playing out an uninspiring 0-0 draw with Valladolid at home last weekend, Girona will take on Real Madrid at the Estadio Municipal de Montilivi, praying to repeat last season’s display when they defeated the Spanish heavyweights by two goals to one in front of the home crowd. The White and Reds had a pretty decent premier season in La Liga, as they’ve finished 10th barely missing out on the Europa League promotion thanks to some poor performance in the final stage of the championship. However, during the off-season, Eusebio Sacristán’s team managed to raise their game again, recording four wins out of seven warm-up matches while drawing two times and losing only once. On the other hand, Los Blancos, who started the new league campaign with a 2-0 victory over Getafe at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, have already lost one trophy this season, as Atletico Madrid outplayed them in extra time of the European Super Cup Final to clinch the flattering title. Despite the loss to the city rivals, Julen Lopetegui’s side demonstrated their quality during the preparation period, defeating three Italian giants, Juventus, AS Roma, and AC Milan after losing 2-1 to Manchester United in their first summer friendly.

The home team will enter the field at full strength, as Aday served a one-match suspension, while Jesús Vallejo should be the only one to miss the game for the visitors.
