Getafe vs Villarreal 19/05/19

19 May 2019

Getafe’s pursuit of a miraculous top-four finish will get its epilogue this weekend, as they welcome Villarreal to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez for the final La Liga fixture of the season.

The hosts currently sit fifth in the table with the same point tally as Valencia, which is why they can’t afford a mistake here. However, Los Azulones are not enjoying the best of times, having secured just two wins in their last six LL outings (W2, D2, L2). Notably, though, seven of Getafe’s nine LL wins in 2019 have arrived at home, with Pepe Bordalás’ men netting 2+ match goals across six of those triumphs. Already established themselves as one of the best defensive sides in La Liga, El Geta boast the second-best defensive home record having allowed just 11 goals in 18 LL home games this term. What’s more, Getafe have kept a clean sheet in all four of their previous LL home matches, picking up three wins across those clashes (W3, D1).

Meanwhile, the visitors’ good run of form since late April has helped them preserve the top-flight status (W3, D1, L1) even though they’ve endured a disappointing league campaign. Interestingly, all four of Villarreal’s last LL wins have been settled by a narrow one-goal margin, with three of them ending with the similar 1-0 scoreline. Still, the Yellow Submarine has not failed to impress on their previous three visits to this venue (D1, L2), struggling to find the net in both of their last two H2Hs here. Javier Calleja’s main problem ahead of this clash could be Villarreal’s immense problems in the final third that has seen them score an average of 1.06 goals per match on the road this campaign.
