Getafe vs Villarreal 09/07/20

09 July 2020

Getafe (6th) and Villarreal (5th) will face off at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez this midweek in an exciting La Liga affair, with just one point separating the teams ahead of the kick-off.

For Getafe, goals have been at a premium over the past five months. After a 3-0 home dismantling of Valencia at the beginning of February, Jose Bordalas’ men have gone on to net over 1.5 goals per La Liga fixture in just one of the subsequent 11 matches, drawing a blank in five, including the last two. A series of underwhelming results have come along, with Getafe picking up only two wins from the abovementioned 11 league games (D5, L4). But, Getafe can now post back-to-back La Liga home wins for the first time since the start of the year as they take on a side they’ve not lost to in four consecutive top-flight H2Hs held at this stadium (W2, D2).

Meanwhile, a dismal 4-1 home defeat to Barcelona at the weekend brought Villarreal’s six-game unbeaten run in La Liga to an end (W5, D1). But, the visitors take the field after securing three consecutive league triumphs away from home, all of which saw the ‘Yellow Submarine’ keep a clean sheet. Javier Calleja’s men are used to tight contests, as eight of their last ten La Liga away games ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W6, D1, L3). Still, particularly vulnerable after the break, Villarreal have shipped 66.67% (14) of the 21 La Liga away goals conceded in the second half of play, while managing just 45.45% of the total road goals scored in the same timeframe (10/22).
