Getafe vs Sevilla 21/04/19

21 April 2019

Sunday’s La Liga showdown between Getafe and Sevilla at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez sees the two sides battling it out for the Champions League promotion.

Sitting one point adrift of their next rivals, the hosts have an opportunity to leapfrog fourth-placed Sevilla should they pull off a win here. But, a run of poor form in the recent period has seen ‘Azulones’ picking up just one triumph in their last five La Liga fixtures (W1, D3, L1), which has allowed Sevilla to break into top four. Interestingly, four of those five clashes have featured under 2.5 goals, with Getafe netting over 1.5 match goals just once in the process. José Bordalás can still lean on the fact his players have secured seven wins in their last eight home games across all competitions (W7, L1) with four of those triumphs being accompanied by clean sheets. Hardly penetrable at home, El Geta have preserved seven clean slates in 15 LL home meetings, conceding just 11 goals – third joint-best LL record.

Meanwhile, the visitors seem to have managed to overcome a difficult period as they come into this encounter after securing three successive LL victories, with two of those wins ending with the same 2-0 scoreline. A much more important thing for Andalusians is that they’ve started to collect points away from home again. Los Hispalenses have gone from five straight LL away defeats in which they’ve scored just one goal to back-to-back triumphs in which they’ve kept a clean sheet. Same as Getafe, four of Sevilla’s last five LL outings have produced under 2.5 goals although Joaquín Caparrós’ men bagged over 1.5 match goals three times in that period. Los Nervionenses can’t be happy to play at this venue at this stage of the season given the fact they’ve pulled off barely one win on their previous nine visits here (W1, D2, L6).
