Getafe vs Real Madrid

2021 La Liga action gets underway at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez as relegation-threatened Getafe take on pacesetters Real Madrid.

Following a disastrous 11-game winless start to the season, Getafe have got their horrific La Liga campaign back on the rails, winning three of their last seven league matches to escape from the relegation territory. However, with 18th-placed Deportivo Alaves level on points with the Madrilean outfit, Quique Sánchez Flores’ men could return to the drop zone if they fail to halt a seven-game winless league run in their home H2Hs (D2, L5). To even consider upsetting Real Madrid, Getafe will have to find the way to score against ‘Los Blancos’ in La Liga for the first time since March 2018, having failed to get on the scoresheet in each of their six top-flight H2Hs since (D2, L4).

Meanwhile, Real Madrid rounded 2021 off with a hard-earned 2-1 win at Athletic Bilbao, taking their unbeaten run in La Liga to a staggering 11 matches (W9, D2). Additionally, ‘Los Merengues’ have kept a clean sheet in four of their five La Liga outings since the start of December 2021. Only Sevilla (13) have conceded fewer La Liga goals than Madrid (16) this season, though it’s worth noting that 68.75% of those goals have come away from home (11). That said, Carlo Ancelotti’s men have won five La Liga away fixtures in a row ahead of this trip, netting 2+ goals on each occasion. Madrid’s road action usually sparks into life after the break, with 16 (70%) of their 23 league goals scored on hostile turf this term arriving in the second half of play.
