Getafe vs Espanyol 17/06/20
17 June 2020
Getafe and Espanyol will lock horns at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez this midweek, as the visitors look to bring a four-game losing run in their La Liga (LL) away H2Hs to a halt.
A 2-1 away defeat to Granada in their first post-pandemic league match now means that the hosts lost three of their last five LL fixtures (W1, D1), with three of those results (win/loss) yielding a single-goal margin. The ‘clean-sheet theme’ will be of the essence here, given that eight of Getafe’s ten LL home results this season saw the winner on the day shut out the losing side. Also, there’s been virtually no coming back for Getafe after conceding the opening goal at home this term – José Bordalás’ side lost three of four LL home fixtures in which they’ve shipped the opener (D1). Another tight affair is on the cards, though, as six of their last eight top-flight H2H clashes against Espanyol ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W4, D2, L2).
As for the visitors, they have secured a comfortable 2-0 home triumph over Alaves last time out to reduce the gap on 17th-placed Celta Vigo to three points. However, the ‘Periquitos’ head to Getafe on a run of four consecutive LL away matches without a win (D1, L3) having conceded over 1.5 goals on three of those occasions. Arguably one of the slowest away starters in the league, Abelardo’s men have shipped the opening goal (if any) in eight of 14 LL road trips so far this term (57.14%), returning only four points from such fixtures (W1, D1, L6). Additionally, for Espanyol, goals have been at a premium away from home this season. They’ve bagged only 11 goals on the road on a miserly average of 0.78 goals scored per LL away match.
