Germany vs Sweden 05/03/20

5 March 2020

Germany women’s national football team will take on Sweden in the Algarve Cup quarter-finals at the Estádio Algarve this midweek.

Germany are enjoying a purple patch of form, having won ten of 11 of their previous matches, including the last five (friendlies included) – the lone exception is a 2-1 defeat to Sweden precisely. Notably, all but one of their seven previous victories have yielded a clean sheet and a winning multiple-goal margin, with Germany scoring over 7.5 goals in three of the last five! A bit more dangerous after the break, ‘Die Nationalelf’ have managed 18 of their last 33 goals scored in the second half of play (54.55%). Often switching through the gears in the late stages, Germany have found the net beyond the 80th-minute mark in their past five wins, scoring a total of ten in that interval.

Meanwhile, Sweden’s four-game winning run has suffered a setback last time out, as they’ve lost 3-2 to the United States. Yet, all four of their previous matches have now seen over 4.5 goals, with Sweden scoring over 1.5 second-half goals in each. Delivering action on both ends from the very beginning, four of their last five games have produced over 1.5 goals inside the opening 30 minutes of play. However, it will take something special from Sweden to beat the side they’ve lost to in four of their last six H2Hs (W1, D1). Interestingly, four of those five results (win//loss) have yielded the exact 2-1 scoreline, with three seeing the winner on the day open the scoring.
