Genoa vs Napoli 09/07/20

09 July 2020

Genoa enter their clash against Napoli at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris frantically looking over their shoulders, as they sit just two points clear of the relegation zone ahead of the kick-off.

It will be a daunting prospect for Genoa to pick up three points here, though, as they’ve failed to beat Napoli in all seven of their previous top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (D2, L5). Additionally, the hosts come into this clash on the back of four successive Serie A matches without a win (D2, L2), all of which saw over 3.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Even though they’ve lost four of six Serie A home games this calendar year (W2), the ‘Griffins’ have been an exciting team to watch in 2020. Five of Genoa’s six top-flight home fixtures since the calendar flipped have featured over 2.5 goals and both sides scoring, with 59.09% (13) of the 22 goals (scored/conceded) across those encounters coming in the second half.

Meanwhile, none of Napoli’s last seven Serie A trips has ended in a draw (W5, L2), with five of those results (win/loss) seeing the winner on the day score at least twice. The ‘second-half goals’ theme remains vital, in the context of Napoli’s league away results recorded since December 2019. Indeed, 66.67% of the goals (scored/conceded) away from home since December came after the break (12/18), with the winning goal in six of their last seven Serie A road results consistently arriving in the second half. In turn, the majority (65.38%) of the league goals the ‘Partenopei’ have scored on the road this season came after the break (17/26).
