Genoa vs AC Milan 21/01/19

21 January 2019

After suffering a 1-0 defeat to Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana, AC Milan return to the Serie A action as they travel to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris to tackle an out-of-form Genoa side.

After a promising start of the season, the Red and Blues have slowed down, securing just one triumph in their last 13 Serie A outings (W1, D5, L7). A disastrous period has seen Genoa tumbling down to 14th place, as they now sit only seven points clear of the relegation zone. Although unbeaten in their previous four Serie A home clashes, the Griffin have played out three draws in that period, with two of them ending with the identical 1-1 scoreline. Genoa’s defensive frailties have seen them concede in seven of their last eight competitive games at home, allowing over 1.5 goals per match four times in the process. However, Cesare Prandelli’s players have defeated AC Milan three times in their last four H2H meetings at this venue, suffering one loss during the run.

Meanwhile, the visitors are winless in their last three Serie A road encounters (D3). What’s more, the Rossoneri have won just one of their last five Serie A meetings (W1, D3, L1). Seven of AC Milan’s nine away games have produced under 2.5 goals, with four of them ending with one goal or less. The 3-time Champions League winners are dealing with immense problems in the final third that have seen them score over 1.5 goals per match on just two road trips so far. AC Milan’s average of 1.11 goals scored per match away from home is among the lowest in Serie A. Furthermore, Gennaro Gattuso’s men have failed to hit the target in four of their last five Serie A clashes.
