Gamba Osaka vs Yokohama FC 08/08/20

08 August 2020

Gamba Osaka and Yokohama FC go head-to-head at the Suita City Football Stadium for their first J1 League H2H since 2007. Interestingly, four of their previous five competitive H2Hs have seen both teams scoring, with three producing over 2.5 goals.

Gamba’s four-game winning run in J1 League came to an end last weekend thanks to a narrow 1-0 home loss to Kawasaki. Meanwhile, a 1-1 away draw with Oita in the YBC Levain Cup at the midweek means that nine of Gamba’s ten competitive fixtures this calendar year have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W5, D2, L3). Curiously, half (four) of those results (wins/losses) have produced the identical 2-1 scoreline, with the winner on the day scoring at least once in the first half on all of those occasions. Additionally, all four of their J1 League home fixtures this term have yielded a single-goal margin (W2, L2), with each of those matches featuring precisely one goal five minutes before or after the halftime break.

Despite beating Sagan Tosu 1-0 on the road in their midweek’s YBC Levain Cup clash, the visitors have suffered four consecutive league defeats going into this encounter. All of those losses have yielded a full-time margin of at least two goals, with the last three seeing Yokohama draw a blank. Also, the ‘Fulie’ have failed to secure a win in all three of their previous competitive trips to Gamba (D2, L1). Yet, the visitors have accrued four of their five J1 League points this season away from home (W1, D1, L1), with two of those fixtures producing over 3.5 goals. But, lapses in concentration after halftime have seen four of Yokohama’s six league away goals conceded arrive in the second half of play.
