Galatasaray vs Paris Saint-Germain 02/10/19

2 October 2019

Galatasaray and Paris Saint-Germain will face-off at the Türk Telekom Stadium for their first UEFA Champions League (CL) showdown since 2000/01.

A goalless away draw with Club Brugge in the 2019/20 CL curtain-raiser has stretched the hosts winless European run to eight matches (D3, L5). After a 3-0 demolition of Lokomotiv Moscow in the 2018/19 CL matchday one, the Turkish side lost four of five subsequent games in Group D (D1, L4), three of which have seen them fail to get to the scoresheet. The Lions have pulled off just two wins in their last 13 European fixtures on home turf (W2, D6, L5), but their last home loss to the Ligue 1 visitors dates back to 1993/94. The reigning Super Lig holders feel comfortable facing the French side at home having won four of the last six such matches (W4, D2).

After thumping a lackluster Real Madrid 3-0 on matchday one, the Parisians are now looking to post their third successive CL away victory and remain at the top of Group A. PSG picked up a little bit of everything from their three travels in the group stage last season (W1, D1, L1), with each of those games seeing both teams score. Although they’ve suffered three defeats in their previous four European visits to Turkey (W1, L3), it will be their first game on this turf since 2008/09 season. Free-scoring PSG have netted at least one goal in 25 successive CL matches ahead of this trip, but they’ve secured just five wins in their last 12 CL fixtures (W5, D2, L5).
