Fulham vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to lock horns at Craven Cottage in a bottom-half Premier League showdown.

Fulham must have been grateful to hear the international break bells ringing after back-to-back defeats to Manchester United and Aston Villa demoted them to the lower reaches, extending their underwhelming winless run in the Premier League to four games (D1, L3). Marco Silva’s next assignment is to galvanize his poor-performing frontline that has netted a meager average of just 0.5 goals per game across their last four league outings. But as the division’s second-worst attacking with nine goals, scoring has been a genuine issue for the ‘Cottagers’ after Aleksandar Mitrovic’s departure for Al-Hilal. Wolves’ visit to London doesn’t bode well either, with Fulham failing to get on the scoresheet in four of their last five Premier League H2Hs (D2, L3). If it’s any consolation, both encounters in 2022/23 ended as a draw.

In the meantime, Wolverhampton became only the eighth side in Premier League history to take three points after trailing in the 90th minute, courtesy of a superb stoppage-time comeback against Tottenham Hotspur last time out (2-1). That win helped them arrest a two-game winless league run (D1, L1) and leapfrog their hosts in the standings, steering ten points off the drop zone. Unlike some recent campaigns, high scoring has been a common theme in Wolves’ Premier League fixtures of late, with their last four featuring over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Manager Gary O’Neil wouldn’t mind a ‘less exciting’ match-up for a change after a run of four Premier League travels without a clean sheet held his side winless on three occasions (D1, L2).
